Remembering God’s Faithfulness: Reflections on Psalm 77:11 and September 11

September always brings a lot of memories flooding in for me. Some are good and happy memories, and some are not as good. In fact, there are a lot of sad ones.

September 11, 2001, is a day that will always be remembered, much like other significant events in history, such as Pearl Harbor, the assassination of President Kennedy, and the Space Shuttle Challenger disaster.

These are days when those who were alive can say, “I remember what I was doing when it happened.” Everyone has moments like this in their own lives, events that mark time in our minds and will never be taken away as long as we are able to remember.

Psalm 77:11 says, “I shall remember the deeds of the Lord; surely I will remember Your wonders of old.”

The Psalmist tells us that we should remember the deeds of our Lord. Those deeds include the sacrifice Jesus made by giving His life for each of us, as well as the gift of salvation and the promise of eternal life in heaven with Him.

When we allow ourselves to forget or lay aside memories that were once a strong part of our lives, we can also lose sight of the love, mercy, and grace that God has bestowed upon each of us who calls Him Savior.

As we approach the 25th anniversary of that fateful day of September 11, I hope each of us will take a moment to stop and thank the Lord for all that He has given us and to pray for all those who lost loved ones on that day.

Remember, you are special in the eyes of the Lord. He loves each of us so much that He sacrificed His only Son for our sins.
